Paradoxology

Helen waving hello
Paradoxology

by Lenore Morales

I mourn.

I mourn for my mother.
Not just for losing her—

not that she has not now gained The Eternal Best.

For what, and whom, while she lived down here she lost.
For what she never knew she could not realize.
For what she and her mothers and sisters never knew they did not have.
For the thoughts and dreams they were forbidden to envision—
much less to chase or to live.

For the pain they bore, and hid, and lived, and relived. And still hid.
Oh, they did know great love and great joy, and that which they could share.
Even in the midst.
And that is a blessing.
I am thankful.
So I mourn,
not without assurance of Justice, not without

Hope.

For myself, my daughters, my sisters, my mothers.

For my man, my sons, my brothers, my fathers.
For all women and all men in this world.
I mourn, and I hope.
For all people.
Amen. t
